Sonisphere festival 2012 has been cancelled, according to the Queen website.

In a post on their official site, the band state: "It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012".

The July event, which was due to play host to headliners including Kiss, Faith No More and Queen is said to have struggled to sell tickets for the 2012 event, despite being one of the UK's few remaining true rock events.

Tickets have now been withdrawn from the site. Another sad loss for the UK festival scene, as Sonisphere becomes the latest festival to cancel this year. An official statement is expected tomorrow (29 March 2012).

John Probyn, Chief Operating Officer for Live Nation UK, tweeted, "Another one bites the dust...", seeming to confirm the end of the festival on 27 March.
