Spotify has launched an extensive history of music with their new Facebook Timeline page.

Using the social networks newly rolled out layout, which incorporates a users history on the site and previous activity in their lifetime, the music streaming company have been able to create an interactive history of the past 1000 years of musical activity.

The Timeline dates back to 900AD and turns the Spotify Facebook fan page into a destination where fans can discover, share and listen to the history of music. Each year is accompanied with significant events, from album releases to birthdays and are accompanied by a link to stream the artists music on Spotify.

Spotify say they will be adding more historical landmarks in the coming weeks as well as giving fans the chance to input their own favourite musical landmarks to the timeline.

Rob Fitzpatrick, Music specialist at Spotify, commented: “It’s impossible to even begin to capture every important moment in music, but the new Facebook Timeline has enabled us to at least start out on this musical journey and discover some incredible facts we never knew. We hope music fans will dive in and enjoy these amazing milestones as well as contribute to keep our Timeline evolving.”

Spotify shareholder Sean Parker hit the headlines this week after he became the subject of an angry tirade from The Black Keys.
