Patti Smith pays tribute to Amy Winehouse

Patti Smith has revealed full details of her new album, which includes a dedication to the late Amy Winehouse.

The punk singer will release the new album 'Banga' on June 4 and said that she based the track 'This Is The Girl' on a poem that she had written following Winehouse's sudden death last July.

''The little song for Amy just blossomed in the studio. We were at [New York studio] Electric Lady doing a whole other song and I wrote Amy a little poem when she died and my bass player, Tony Shanahan, wrote a piece of music and the two matched perfectly," said Smith.

She added: ''We wrote a very nice little song for Amy Winehouse, and I think a beautiful song for Maria Schneider, the actress who was a friend of mine in the '70s. They just happened, like gifts."

'Banga' is the first release for Smith since her 2007 covers record 'Twelve'.
