The Cribs frontman Ryan Jarman has spoken of the 'pop hell' that the UK music industry is currently experiencing.

The singer has said he hopes to challenge the current pop and dance scene with his band's new album, 'In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull'.

"We didn't want to do [a new album] while guitar bands were still in vogue because it felt like we always got lumped in with a scene that we didn't feel represented us," Jarman says in an interview with NME. "I don't like being represented by other bands.

"Now, we're in pop hell. The pendulum has swung back to dance music and commercial pop. You can't avoid it.

"When you watch TV there's popstars on adverts and TV shows - it's everywhere. So maybe people will see us now as a counter-cultural band - we want to take on the mainstream."

The Cribs new album is released on 7 May, 2012 and is their first since the departure of Johnny Marr. The band recently said returning to being a three-piece was like a shot in the arm'.
