Jack White has become involved in a disagreement with the people behind the Guinness Book of World Records.
White criticised the 'elitist' Guinness World Records team earlier this month over their refusal to list he and siser Meg White's 2007 show in Canada as the shortest gig in history. The White Stripes show lasted less than a second with White playing one chord and Meg hitting a single cymbal.
This show was in the famous book of records until recently, when it was removed following a decision from organisers regarding the validity of 'shortest' records in general.
Responding to Jack White's feelings for them, Guinness World Records said: "The nature of competing to make something the 'shortest' by its very nature trivialises the activity being carried out, and Guinness World Records has been forced to reject many claims of this kind. As such, we have been forced to cease listing records for the shortest song, shortest poem and indeed the shortest concert."
However, this has not put White off as he today (May 18), announced plans to break the record for most metaphors used in a single concert.
A statement from White's Third Man publicist reads: "The attempt may prove very exhausting and at times even dangerous, but the results could prove to be glorious and possibly even vainglorious. White and Third Man Records are certain that the extremely scientific and intricate analysis of the metaphors that occur will be examined in accordance with Guinness' usually very thorough methods probably, or at the very least if somebody answers the phone at the pub.
