The Stone Roses are reported to have recorded a handful of new tracks, according to a writer working on a film about the indie legends.
Chris Coghill, who is currently penning a film based on the band's 1990 Spike Island show, told the BBC that the band 'have at least three of four songs recorded'. His project, which focuses on the band's rise from council estate upbringing in Manchester, has been given the band's 'blessing'.
"Mani and Ian Brown said, 'Whatever we can do to help,'" Coghill told BBC at the Cannes film festival. "Essentially, it's my love letter to the Stone Roses and being 16 years old in 1990 in Manchester. There's a little bit of me in all the boys.
"I'm mates with Mani and I know Ian a bit, and when we first started talking about it, I emailed them both an outline of what we wanted to do and they said, 'You have our support, you have our blessing, whatever you need."
The Stone Roses have made no official statement about new music, but fans will be hoping they will showcase any new material at their Heaton Park shows in June-July. For more information, visit Gigwise Gig Tickets.
