Muse are set for some unlikely company at this year's MTV European Music Awards in November, when they share perform live at the US awards show alongside country star Taylor Swift and returning ska-rockers No Doubt.

The band will perform at the 19th annual awards show on 11 November 2012. The show will be broadcast live from Frankfurt, Germany. The trio of international music stars are the first to be announced for the show, which will be hosted by Seal's ex-wife, model Heidi Klum.

Muse are set to score a No.1 album this week with their new release The 2nd Law, which is currently occupying the No.1 and No.2 slots on the iTunes chart. The Westcountry rockers are set to topple Mumford & Sons, who broke records last week with sales of their second album, Babel.

Muse have spoken openly and intimately about the struggles within the band over recent years, with bassist Chris Wolstenholme revealing that the band saved him from alcohol addiction.

"When I was going through the tough time and stopped drinking, I just threw myself into writing in the studio," he says in a new interview with The Sun newspaper. "Over the years as the drinking got worse, I became detached from the band. I never questioned if I wanted to be in the band but once I cleaned myself up I realised how much I loved music.

“It was the only thing which could take my mind off drinking."

The 2nd Law is out now.
