Lily Allen in for Two Door Cinema Club: Two Door Cinema Club's only scheduled festival headline slot was cancelled and Lily Allen has stepped in to headline the 35,000 capacity event. The singer released her first album in five years and returned with a number one album, and became one of 2014's few female headliners.
Kanye West in for Drake: Kanye West played two Wireless nights on the trot after Drake cancelled his appearance due to ill health. Kanye West ended up being headlining the London leg of the festival two nights on the trot. The rapper who has six consecutive number one albums certainly has a big enough following to double up - but caused a bit of controversy by taking up much of his set time with epic 20 minute rants.
Ash in for Steve Winwood: In Glastonbury 1997, Grammy-award winning Steve Winwood pulled out of his Sunday night headline slot. Three -piece Britpop band Ash replaced them. They became the youngest ever act to have played on the Pyramid Stage with an average age of 19.
Pulp in for The Stone Roses: Pulp and Stone Roses fans are largely the same breed. Adidas Gazelle's, a spray-on Fred Perry polo shirt, and a Paul Weller hairstyle being the uniform. Pulp as a replacement for Glastonbury '95, therefore, was an educated decision. The Stone Roses pulled out because John Squire broke his collar bone in a biking accident. He left the band not long after. The band continued without him for a few months before splitting in 1996. Pulp's headline slot has gone down in Glasto history as one of the best of all time.
Basement Jaxx in for Kylie Minogue: Kylie Minogue was due to close Glastonbury 2005 but was forced to cancel as she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Basement Jaxx were personally invited by her to be the penultimate act and the organisers promoted them to headliners.
The Darkness in for David Bowie: The glam rockers were scheduled to support David Bowie at T In The Park in 2004 but were quickly upgraded to headliners when Bowie pulled out due to illness. It may seem ridiculous now, but The Darkness were at the height of their popularity at the time - and certainly pulled out all of the stops.
Snow Patrol in for Oasis: In 2009, Oasis were due to perform at V Festival's Chelmsford edition, having played Staffordshire the night before - but they pulled out, blaming viral laryngitis. Rumours were already circulating before their cancellation that Oasis were on the verge of splitting up and a month later they did. Snow Patrol courageously stepped up to fill in for the Manchester indie legends.
Gorillaz in for U2: U2 cancelled their 2011 Glastonbury gig due to injury. They returned the following year, but there was controversy surrounding Bono's tax avoidance. Damon Albarn's Gorillaz stepped up to the mark and provided a spectacular show that drew from their first two albums and Plastic Beach, which they released in 2010.
