Sky Ferreira: "I remember when I first heard Hole's Live Through This - like, really listened to it - I was like, 'Oh, my god! They get me!' She was very forward and scared people and intimidated people since she wasn’t just some meek lady. She actually had a personality and I feel like the media took advantage of that and warped it into something else."
Dum Dum Girls: "Hole was the only poster on my wall. I played out their cassette tapes in about 6th or 7th grade. But I definitely thank Courtney Love for existing because she was one of my formative inspirations and one of the reasons that I play in a band now."
Tove Lo: "I was very into Nirvana and Hole. I think I was just always fascinated with the self-destructive, decadent, Kurt and Courtney kind of love, which was obviously very dark but I just always found that fascinating."
Lana Del Rey: "Courtney Love's a big inspiration. I like her, I talk to her a lot. I just went to her show when she was playing in London. I like people who are strong female characters."
The Coathangers' Julia Kugel: "I was a young girl growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta, nestled comfortably into the Southern region known as the Bible Belt. The first time I heard and saw Hole, my proper little world was shattered. They were strong, rude, loud, and powerful while simultaneously embracing their femininity. Hole was scary (ha) and fascinating."
White Lung: "When I first fell in love with Live Through This, I read Love’s lyrics over and over. Not only did Hole and Courtney Love heavily influence me as a teenager, but Love herself introduced me to many bands I never would have found out about without her guidance. The woman was always throwing down references and other bands, name-dropping constantly, but she gave me a map."
Scout Niblett: "For me, the thing that I loved about them and her was the anger, and aggressiveness, along with the tender side. That was something I hadn’t seen before in a woman playing music. That was hugely influential and really inspiring. Women up ’til then were kind of one-dimensional, twee, sweet, ethereal, and that annoys the shit out of me."
