Mark Ronson - 'Here Comes The Fuzz' (ft Jack White): The title track from Ronson's 2003 debut album, Jack White plays the main riff and a small vocal part but remains uncredited. He can't fool us though, that guitar groove is unmistakably the handiwork of the White Stripes head-honcho.
Alt-J - 'Warm Foothills' (ft Lianne La Havas / Conor Oberst / Maricka Hackman): With harmonies unachievable by the band alone, Alt-J bring in a wide variety of folk voices from the past and present. Joe Newman splices lines with Maricka, Lianne and Conor to glorious effect.
Biffy Clyro - 'Bubbles' (ft Josh Homme): The most rocking moment on Biffy's 2009 Only Revolutions is the roaring outro of 'Bubbles'. It's a little known fact that Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme contributed those squealing guitar licks that add a pinch of extra intensity to the prog-rock instrumental.
David Bowie - 'Fame' (ft John Lennon): Following a split with his current manager in 1974, Bowie took to hanging out in NYC with John Lennon. The two ended up in the famous Electric Lady studios to record this malice fuelled funk anthem with Lennon pitching in some backing vocals for the chorus, "FAAAME".
The Beatles - 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' (ft Eric Clapton): George Harrison always wrote the most interesting instrumentals so it's fitting he brought one of the greatest guitarists of all time on one of the best Beatles songs. However, Clapton was unlawfully left without credit for his lead guitar contributions on their band's 1968 White Album.
Hot Chip - 'Love is the Future' (ft Posdnous): One of the many highlights on Hot Chip's latest record is De La Soul's Posdnous showing up to the party. The two acts have an undeniable chemistry, in a perfect world we'd hear Alexis Taylor on the new De La Soul record but that may be pushing it.
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank (ft Johnny Marr): A Considered by many as the 'worst' Modest Mouse album for it's more polished and bloated sound, this is most likely the result of Johnny Marr temporarily joining the Issaquah indie giants. His guitar work brought jangle and melody to what was formally raw and emotionally dense.
Run the Jewels - 'All Due Respect' (ft Travis Barker): The most impactful hip-hop act of the decade with the strongest armed drummer of the last. It isn't odd to hear Trav collaborating outside his pop-punk roots seeing as he's been a stickman for hire with the likes of LL Cool J, Glitch Mob, Swizz Beats and Lil Wayne.
Death Grips - 'Birds' (ft Robert Pattinson): In 2013, ear-assaulters and Hip-Hop trio, Death Grips recruited Twilight actor Robert Pattinson to play guitar on their track 'Birds'. Maybe the least intimating track in DG's catalogue, this feature may have expanded the intersection from 'none' to 'some' in the Twilight fan and Death Grips fan Venn diagram.
The National - 'Afraid of Everyone' (ft Sufjan Stevens): The story for this track involved Sufjan coming into the studio on a particularly troublesome day during the recording of 2010's High Violet to layer some background vocals. This was used for a base and the whole song just fell in to place after that in all it's haunting and melancholic grandeur.
Fucked Up - 'Led by Hand' (ft J Mascis): Being a part of one of the greatest alt-rock bands of all time, it's easy to forget that J Mascis has his roots in hardcore. Jumping on Fucked Up's incandescent 2014 record was a no brainer for J and it sounds awesome.
Swans - To Be Kind (ft St Vincent): Contributing additional vocals on four tracks over this two hour monstrosity. Annie Clark's voice is barely detectable as it is swept into the mesmeric and hypnotic swells that encompass this magnum opus from the post-rock giants, especially on the 34 minute track 'Bring the Sun / Toussaint L'Ouverture'.
Pink Floyd - 'Talkin' Hawkin" (ft Stephen Hawking): Despite being completely panned by the critics, Pink Floyd's final record, The Endless River, features none other than astrophysics genius, Stephen Hawking. He lends his voice to the track continuing his work moonlighting as a pop culture icon as well as one of the greatest minds of the 20th century.
