From the thinly-veiled insults to full-on naming and shaming

Sun Kil Moon - 'War On Drugs: Suck My Cock': There's nothing subtle, or particularly imaginative, in this expletive-filled, unprovoked attack on The War On Drugs - written after Mark Kozelek's festival set was ruined by excessive sound bleed from TWOD's souncheck.

The Cribs - 'Our Bovine Public': This, and its B-side 'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant', are widely rumoured to be about The Pigeon Detectives. The latter, said to be written after The Pigeon Detectives organised a wet T-shirt contest on-stage, includes the lyrics, "Your on-stage antics out in Leeds were tailor-made to suit men's needs"

Taylor Swift - 'Bad Blood': Possibly the most widely discussed diss track of the past few years, Swift has all-but admitted that this was written about Katy Perry. In response, Perry accused Swift of "unmeasurably [sic] capitalizing on the take down of a woman"

Eminem - 'Girls': When it comes to Eminem, there were about 6,401 different diss tracks we could have chosen. This one, written (in case you hadn't guessed) about Limp Bizkit, is possibly the most delightfully childish.

Drake - 'Back To Back': After Meek Mill publicly accused Drake of not writing any of his own raps, Drake hit back in the form of two diss tracks. This one references the fact that Mill's girlfriend, Nicki Minaj, is bringing him on tour as her support.

Madonna - 'Two Steps Behind Me': Madonna has denied that this leaked track is a poorly-disguised attack on Lady Gaga, who has often been accused of riding in on Madonna's coat tails. Whoever it was about, she decided not to release it in the end.

Lauryn Hill - 'The Lost Ones': Written about former bandmate and former partner Wyclef Jean, 'The Lost Ones' chronicles the pair's strained relationship after Hill embarked on a romance with Bob Marley's son Rohan.
