Grimes - Halfaxa: The incredible and strange music of Grimes is one of the most celebrated successes in the record industry. Her second album Halifax was released before the world was turned on to her capabilities but Lo Recordings were ahead of the pack and put this out in 2010.
Black Devil Disco Club - Black Moon, White Sun: Black Devil Disco Club is the moniker for Frenchman Bernard Fevere. He's been releasing psychedelic disco music since 1978 and his 2013 album Black Moon, White Sun is among his finest.
Susumu Yokota: Susumu Yokota was an electronic composer from Japan who sadly passed away earlier this year after a battling illness. His last ever album was Dreamer which was released back in 2012. Lo Recordings said "His touch was that of a master craftsman, creating intricate musical jewels that sparkled like no others."
Astronauts - Hollow Ponds: Dan Carney's project Astronauts showcases his beautiful tender songwriting and he harmonises with effortless beauty. The single 'Skydive' from this album is a great starting point if this sounds up your alley.
Charles Howl - Surf Trem: This is the best single by London-based garage/psych rockers Charles Howl so far. It's explosively energetic and showcases a fine attention to detail.
Luke Vibert - Nuggets Vol 3: Along with Aphex Twin, and Squarepusher, Luke Vibert revolutionised British electronica in the early 90s. His experimental sound feels like lucid expressions of the deepest recesses of his imagination and yet also ready for the dancefloor. Nuggets Vol 3 is easy one of the finest releases by him.
A Psychedelic Guide to Monsterism Island: Lo Recordings describe Pete Fowler's Monsterism Island as a musical cornucopia and an album full of esoteric musical treats. They say it spans monstrous rock fry ups, electronic exotica via psychedelic folk and spooky Krautrock. Gruff Rhys and Luke Vibert are among the contributors to this epic album.
Thurston Moore - Root: Sonic Youth frontman and acclaimed solo artists in his own right Thurston Moore released this album Root and includes 25 one minute improvised guitar pieces by Thurston Moore. The samples were sent out to various musicians to remix. This imaginative approach to recording is refreshing in light of the routine 11 track albums that usually come out.
Tom Furse: As the keyboardist in psych-rockers The Horrors, Tom Furse has had incredible success. But his side project which was released this year is among the finest electronic music we've heard this year and showcases his diversity and ability to pull off a completely different direction.
Four Tet - Rivers Become Oceans: Lo released this EP in 1999 years before he made it into the sound track of every student dorm in the nation with his progressive electronic music.
The Proper Ornaments - Waiting For The Summer: James Hoare of Veronica Falls and Ultimate Painting founded this band with Max Claps and waiting For The Summer is an exquisite cut from their 60s influenced psych pop back catalogue. Whilst Temples may have become better known Proper Ornaments are easily up there with them in terms of songwriting and production. Buy this.
