Blur's Alex James: When the band were asked to cite some of their favourite albums, Alex James unexpectedly plumped for Ellie Goulding's Halcyon Days.
"Love her songs," he said plainly. "She's the real deal in a world of bogus pop pretenders."
Kanye West: Back in 2008, West described the much-maligned Red Hot Chili Peppers as his "favourite group", even though - in his words - "Anthony Kiedis wasn't the best singer in the world."
Demi Lovato: The former Disney star is, or at least used to be, a massive metal head. Some of her favourite bands include Lamb Of God, Dr. Acula and The Devil Wears Prada (not to be mistaken with the Anne Hathaway film) "The Jonas Brothers dance and play dance music in their dressing room," she told an interviewer back in her teens, "and I’ll be across the hall, and I just blare metal. People walk by and go, 'Really?'"
Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner: When asked by NME for the records that changed his life, Turner kicked things off with a Shirley Bassey 7-inch. "One of my favourite 45s is by Shirley Bassey," he said. "It’s ‘Big Spender’ on the A-side but the B-side is this song called ‘Dangerous Games’, which I’ve never really heard anybody talk about. It’s amazing."
Lady Gaga: When Gaga first burst onto the scene, she was instantly compared to Madonna. She had something rather different in mind ,though: "I always used to say to people, when they would say, 'Oh, she's the next Madonna.' No, I'm the next IRON MAIDEN. They're one of the greatest rock bands in history, in my opinion."
David Bowie: "I have a thing for Chinese folk music", Bowie told The Guardian a few years ago. He also said Godspeed You! Black Emperor are "among my, erm, two favourite Montreal bands, Arcade Fire being the other. All Montreal bands have around nine members, I believe."
Taylor Swift: This one's a little out of date, but when Swift was 21, she was a big fan of Sigur Ros. "My 18-year-old brother turned me on to the Icelandic band Sigur Rós," she told an interviewed. "They make me happy and take me away to dreamland."
Justin Bieber: You probably already knew this one, given how often Bieber wears Metallica t-shirts (much to the chagrin of snobby metal fans), but his favourite bands are the likes of Korn, Led Zeppelin and Metallica.
Lana Del Rey: Del Rey's love of Nirvana should come as a surprise to no-one - the band's influence is laced through Ultraviolence - but you might not have had her pegged as an Eminem fan. "He changed my life," she says. She's also got a soft spot for Britney Spears. "I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians" - *cue massive eye roll* - "but there is something about Britney that compelled me."
Miley Cyrus: Nothing should surprise you about Miley Cyrus, let's be honest. She's a massive Radiohead fan, though, and it seemed worth a mention. "They're like, my rock god. I am obsessed with them. This is the only person I would probably cry over. I would cry."
Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts: You might not have had Roberts down as a champion of cutting edge new music. Well, more fool you. In a recent interview with The 405, she was singing the praises (not literally, she was just talking) of Kehlani, WSTRN, J Hus, Kiko Bun, Diztortion and Taya.
