Fuji Rocks Festival - Niigata, Japan: With a ridiculously diverse line-up that includes the likes of Sigur Ros, James Blake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Avalanches and Babymetal, Fuji Rock takes place in Naeba Ski Resort - but in summer, when all the snow has melted and there’s just luscious green mountains.
Obonjan - Obonjan: This one%u2019s pretty special. Taking place on a previously uninhabited island of the same name, off the coast of Croatia, the festival is a two-month long programme of music, talks, art, food, ecology and wellbeing. Stay for as long as you like, and see music from the likes of Anderson Paak, Four Tet, Kate Tempest and Craig Charles.
Lake Of Stars - Malawi: Returning this year to its original home of Chintheche Inn on the shores of the beautiful Lake Malawi, the non-profit festival promotes Malawian arts and tourism through international interaction and exposure. Malawi prides itself on being the “warm heart of Africa”, so be sure to come for more than just the festival, if you can.
Oasis Festival - Marrakech, Morrocco: Billed as the “perfect fusion of festival and holiday,” the festival takes place at a hotel complex called The Source, and provides leading acts in house, techno, disco and electronica, alongside yoga, local street food, yoga and spectacular view of the Atlas Mountains.
Magnetic Fields Festival - Rajasthan, India: Three days of music, art and Indian food in a 17th century palace. Enough said.
Splendour In The Grass - North Byron Parklands, Australia: Taking place in New South Wales, Splendour In The Grass is one of Australia’s biggest and most popular festivals. This year, it’ll host acts such as The Cure, Years & Years, The Strokes, The Avalanches, The 1975, Courtney Barnett and many, many more.
Rhythm & Vines - Gisborne, New Zealand: Taking place right at the end of the year, Rhythm & Vines goes right up to New Year’s Day - and prides itself on being “the first festival in the world to welcome in the first sunrise of the new year.” This year’s line-up doesn’t drop till August, but past editions have hosted the likes of MO, Bastille, Calvin Harris and N.E.R.D.
Summer Sonic - Tokyo & Osaka, Japan: Taking place in both the country’s capital and a city on the island of Honshu, the festival is hosting some of the world’s biggest acts this summer, from Radiohead to Underworld via Fergie.
BPM Festival - Playa Del Carmen, Mexico: This one’s pretty late in festival season - in fact, it’s at the start of 2017 - but if you’ve got the patience, it’ll be celebrating its 10th anniversary in January, and the to-be-announced line-up is sure to reflect that.
We The Fest - Jakarta, Indonesia: The festivals being headlined this year by The 1975, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Mark Ronson, and describes itself as “an undisputed jewel in the crown of South East Asia’s burgeoning party calendar.”
