Peter Doherty live at Kentish Town Forum, 6/12/16 - in stunning photos
Peter Doherty and The Puta Madres were on flying form last night
Peter Doherty and The Puta Madres brought their brilliant live show to Kentish Town Forum last night which made for a breathtaking experience.
Ill-content to go through the motions, Doherty pulled out all the stops making proving why he's one of the best hosts and rock 'n' roll frontmen ever. Always accommodating to great music, Doherty invited John Hassall (Libs bassist and frontman of The April Rainers), Jack Jones (his guitarist and Trampolene frontman) and Simon Mason (songwriter at Hightown Pirates) to open the show.
Each branding only an acoustic guitar it made for an easy changeover before the event got into full pelt with a dynamic stage show. All the new material from Hamburg Demonstrations such as 'Kolly Kibber' and the simply awesome Dylan-level brilliance of 'Hell To Pay At The Gates Of Heaven' was sounding incredible.
The gradually built in energy rather than ebbed and flowed and by the time Carl Barat, who had made a brief appearance earlier on in the set, joined Doherty with John Hassall and Omar Ortiguela (Doherty's Argentina friend) for a Spanish version of 'Gunga Din' the venue was ecstatic.
Another surprise came at the end as Doherty, after wrestling with Jack Jones on stage and throwing his properly expensive vintage axe into the crowd, was joined by Barat for an emotional rendition of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'. A moment everyone lucky enough to be there will treasure forever. 5 star.
