Ahead of the debut of a BBC documentary into the making of The Rolling Stones’ ‘Exile On Main Street’, Gigwise has taken a look at how the 1972 album came together, complete with some impressive shots of the iconic band in action.

1. Although ‘Exile On Main Street’ was recorded in the summer of 1971, most of the album’s songs can be traced back to recording sessions held at Olympic Studios and singer Mick Jagger’s country house in England between 1969 and 1971.
