From Sensible Soccer To FIFA 10: The Greatest Computer Football Games

Games that changed the way we play...

June 08, 2011 by Alex Winehouse

Games genres have a tendency to come and go. The beat 'em up's have evolved, role playing games are few and far between, and it's been years since there was a decent flying simulation. However, through the last thirty years, one constant has remained - the football simulation.

We've played them all. Peter Shilton's Handball Maradona, Kenny Dalglish Soccer, Nintendo World Cup... we've done it all. Oh, and PES 4, CM2, and Fifa 10, of course, but where's the fun in those games?

In honour of the beautiful game, and partly because we're stuck with cricket for the next few months, we've decided to take a look back at this beloved genre, and decide for ourselves which games deserve to be in the top ten. And which one strides above them all, like some kind of shin-pad clad Colossus (the game in question will come as absolutely no surprise. Here's a hint: it's not Fifa 05).
