4. Brown and Squire met at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and formed a Clash-inspired band called The Patrol in 1980, with pals Andy Couzens and Simon Wolstencroft, who went on to play the drums for post-punk band The Fall. Brown played bass guitar in the band.
