Pussy Riot are this year's winners of the 1LIVE Krone award, which is presented by German radio station 1LIVE.
Two members of the band appeared to collect the award, dressed in their trademark balaclavas, dresses and coloured tights. The prize was not awarded for the band's songs, but rather as an act of solidarity with the members who are currently in prison camps.
Speaking to DW, programming director Jochen Rausch said, "Even in the past, we've awarded the 1LIVE Krone to artists who weren't musicians. The Russian band attracted worldwide attention with their actions."
He added, "We thought that worthy of a prize because pop music also has the function of attracting an immense public."
