Chris Brown, November 2012: The usually pleasant and mild-mannered R&B star threw a massive hissy fit when comedian Jenny Johnson called him "a worthless piece of shit" on Twitter. Brown responded by telling Johnson to "suck his d**k" (unsurprisingly, she declined). Brown promptly quit the social networking site, leaving his deluded fans to send Johnson a barrage of death threats. Unfortunately, he returned to the site days later, and now we all have to put up with his moronic ramblings.
deadmau5, November 2013: Known for being fond of launching scathing attacks on his fellow musicians via his Twitter account, EDM producer deadmau5 eventually decided it would be best to hand over his account to his label and receive anger management - not before delivering one last zinger aimed at Lady Gaga, dubbing her fans 'brain dead.' Until next time, deadmau5, you little ray of sunshine.
Lily Allen, October 2009: A renowned MySpace (RIP) and social networking addict, Allen shocked everyone in 2009 when she declared she was renouncing technology, and had even given away her laptop and Blackberry. Gasp! She signed off with the message "I am a neo-luddite, goodbye." She made good of her word for about a year, returning in December 2010. We hope she was able to get the laptop back from her local Cash Converter.
Azealia Banks, April 2013: Oh, Azealia. After picking fights with just about every bloody person on the planet (Angel Haze, Iggy Azalea, The Stone Roses, Lily Allen, TI, Shystie, Perez Hilton, and possibly your own grandmother) her management panicked and punished the '212' rapper by taking over her Twitter account. Unfortunately for the Interscope PR team, it lasted a matter of days, and her reign of terror still continues. No album yet either, coincidentally.
Courtney Love, October 2010: The Hole frontwoman deleted her Twitter account after posting a baffling barrage of very unsexy half naked photos. Everyone was all like "Meh, it's Courtney Love," until she unveiled an image of her naked on her chair with her fanny out (her poor, poor daughter). Even for Courtney that was one step too far and she hastily bid adieu, claiming the photo had been for her boyfriend. Uh huh.
Lady Gaga, July 2013: Gaga seemed to deactivate her much-used Twitter account in the summer after she broke her hip, deleting all her tweets and changing her bio to "This interface has been shutdown temporarily. Please check back for updates." Luckily for her fans and unluckily for us, it was a ruse before she announced the release details of ARTPOP. She is now back in our lives in every single way possible. Yay.
Miley Cyrus, October 2009: Long before she hacked off her hair and stuck out her tongue, Miley was told to quit Twitter by her boring actor boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. She complied (despite it being a fairly creepy and controlling request) rejoining in 2011 so she could reportedly follow walking controversy Charlie Sheen. Ah, it all makes sense now...
James Arthur, November 2013: In case you've been living under a rock for the past few days, long-lashed X Factor winner James Arthur messed up his career in the most simultaneously depressing and entertaining way possible. After aiming a truly awful diss track at MC Micky Worthless which managed to be both racist AND homophobic, Arthur's management team hurriedly took over his Twitter. A case of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted, we say.
Kanye West, October 2012: West liked to channel his batshit reflections (sample: "I specifically ordered persian rugs with cherub imagery! What do I have to do to get a simple persian rug with cherub imagery uuuuugh") through the medium of his Twitter account, so needless to say we were heartbroken when the rapper dropped off the social networking site, saying "BE BACK SOON". He returned seven long, painful months later.
Adele, November 2012: What do you say to someone who has just given birth? A simple "congratulations" will do, if you're a normal human being. When 'Someone Like You' star Adele popped one out, however, a number of Twitter users decided to wish death upon the newborn instead. After realising the perpetrators would likely die alone and miserable, the singer resumed her sporadic tweeting as normal.
Nicki Minaj, April 2012: The colourful rapper became embroiled in a spat with a Nicki Minaj fan site, Nicki Daily, that had leaked her album online. Awkward. "Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f-cking bye," she stormed, before taking down her profile. We'd hate to see how she'd hold up in a real disaster, like an earthquake or a tornado...actually, that sounds like a good idea for a TV show. Anyway, she came crawling back obviously.
