Jade Castrinos, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Sharpe: Castrinos had been part of the band for seven years, and fans had questioned her absense from recent live shows. The singer has reportedly explained her departure on her personal Instagram page (MaryJade143), which is a private account. Sources report Castinos posted a photo with the caption: "for seven years i sang and wrote music with edward sharpe. they voted me off of tour a week before they left, via email. lol" Ouch.
Kim Shattuck, Pixies: Just three months into her stint with the band, and during the band's extensive 2013 tour, Shattuck was woken the morning after a gig by a phone call from the band's manager - telling her she was being replaced. Seemingly for being too rock and roll for the band, having been told off for jumping into the audience during a gig in LA...
Ron Reyes, Black Flag: The pioneering punk band this year reformed for a number of shows - but it seems the reunion hasn't been too successful. In November 2013 frontman Reyes was, shockingly, fired onstage. Reyes has claimed he feels "great relief" at the abrupt dismissal. Must have been a bit embarrassing, though.
Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd: The groundbreaking psychedelic rock outfit got so fed up of vocalist Barrett's crazed behaviour, which stemmed from his frequent use of acid, that en route to a gig in 1968 they simply decided not to bother picking Barrett up.
Dave Lombardo, Slayer: It seems nowadays the internet is increasingly the bearer of bad news for doomed band members. In February 2013, drummer Lombardo found out he had been given the heave ho from the thrash metal band online - despite co-founding the outfit.
Bernard Butler, Suede: Guitarist Butler learnt of his termination from seminal Britpop group Suede when he rocked up to the studio in 1994, only to not be allowed in. Harsh.
Michael Anthony, Van Halen: Bassist Anthony discovered he had been fired from the US rock outfit from the internet in 2006. To add insult to injury, his replacement was lead singer Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang, who was 16 at the time. Meh, we say you had a lucky escape Anthony.
Jimi Hendrix: He went on to become a music legend, so who'd a thunk the guitar hero was actually fired in the middle of his first gig? Yep, the pioneering musician was fired by the other members of the unnamed band during a set at Seattle's Temple De Hirsch in 1959 for reportedly showing off too much. Bet they regretted it later.
Matt Sorum, Guns N' Roses: After drummer Sorum had a massive row with quite frankly terrifying lead singer Axl Rose in 1997, Rose asked him if he was quitting, to which Sorum replied "No". Axl's response? "You're fired." Channelling Alan Sugar there, we like to think.
Brian Wilson, David Marks, Al Jardine, The Beach Boys: Proving OAPs can still dish out the rudeness, singer Mike Love reportedly told the remaining members they wouldn't be joining him on the rest of their 50th Anniversary tour in 2012. HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO BRIAN WILSON? Just look at him :(
Scott Weiland, Stone Temple Pilots: The US rock band released a press release in February 2013 stating they had "officially terminated" frontman Weiland. Unfortunately, the vocalist had clearly been unaware of the plans, as he had cheerfully assured Rolling Stone just a day before that rumours he was fired were "hearsay". AWKWARD. Weiland spoke with Rolling Stone again after the announcement, revealing he had indeed first learnt about his dismissal from reading about it in the press. Ooooh, burn.
Dave Mustaine, Metallica: Guitarist Mustaine was brutally thrown out of the legendary metal group when the other members got a bit sick of him taking drugs all the time. After driving to New York to record their new album in 1983, Metallica told Mustaine he was kaput and dropped him off at a bus stop to catch a coach home. "Not only was he out of the band, but he had to sit on a bus for four days and think about it!" Lars Ulrich later chuckled in the band's biography.
LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Robertson, Destiny's Child: These two early members of The Beyonce Band found out they had been terminated when they saw the video for 1999 hit 'Say My Name' and just happened to notice they weren't in it. They then had to watch the group get massive and Beyonce go on to become a world-conquering superstar. You'd be pretty pissed off.
Andy Rourke, The Smiths: Rourke was given the boot by Morrissey in 1986 after a weekend spent in prison thanks to his drug habit. Of course, being Morrissey, a simple meeting wouldn't suffice - he chose to leave a note under the windscreen wiper of Rourke's car which read "Andy, you have left The Smiths. Good luck and goodbye, Morrissey." Zing.
