Erik Hassle: It's second time lucky for this future Swedish popstar, although his rise to the top is still taking one hell of a long time. Hassle released his Somebody's Party EP in 2013, which featured the incredible single, 'Talk About It', which we reckon will be a very big hit in the not too distant future. All it needs is the right placement on the right TV programme..
White Sea: All the press releases you'll find around Morgan Kibby refer to her past as part of M83. Forget that though. She is so much better on her own, oozing with charisma, mystery and all the while producing incredibly deep electro-pop. Her debut In Cold Blood is out now and we strongly reccomend you check it out.
P-Money: Not to be confused with the grime MC. This kiwi producer isn't very well known over here but he bloody well should be. His albums take a soulful look at the more traditional form of hip hop, creating some of the best tracks in the genre along the way. One for hardcore fans of the genre.
RUFUS: Another stellar act from down under, they've had huge success in their home country, but are yet to repeat the same feat over here. They produce upbeat dance music that avoids falling into the traps of the donk donk samey house music currently terrorizing the charts. Their Atlas album is a great body of work.
Say Lou Lou: They made on to the BBC Sound Of 2014 longlist but haven't had the breakthrough success they deserve - but they've certainly been a big part of soundtracking our year. Every headline and blurb you read about this deservedly hyped duo is likely to say something about their cheekbones and use the phrase 'girl band', but to do so does this band one hell of a disservice. While their image is as arresting as their sound is dramatic, everything is considered but never contrived. What you have in these Swedish twins is a pair of authentic artists who craft their own world by delivering the whole package. Perfect pop from a duo who deserve to be your new favourite band.
Verb T: An incredibly soulful MC, Verbs has been tearing up the UK hip hop scene. He remains a pillar of the scene and has put out some of his best work recently with album I Remain and the subsequent remixes that have followed this year. Poetic music with a sense of humor is a rare thing and he makes it work beautifully.
The Beaches: You may have caught these guys supporting Brody Dalle on her recent UK tour. You'd remember if you did, because they were totally awesome. A blast of fearless punk mixed with undeniable hooks and anthemics, they spit in the face of any 'girl rock' cliches to deliver the full package of a band who are going all the way.
SZA: With her album Z, she has produced one of the most intelligent pieces of the year, mixing rap and electronica tinged R&B together effortlessly. There is an ambience that pervades her work, something that is seeing her grow slowly in popularity through word of mouth.
Tinashe: Along with SZA she is the future of R&B, one that is tinged with elements of electronica and soulful vocals. After a series of mixtapes and a song with Schoolboy Q she has begun picking up steam. Her debut album Aquarius is due later this year and has huge potential to blow up.
