Lana Del Rey: In the brilliant 'Gods & Monsters', Del Rey sings "No one’s gonna take my soul away, I'm living like Jim Morrison, headed towards a fucked up holiday". Speaking of his influence when she was working with Barrie-James O'Neill, Del Rey once said: "Cobain is" a big part of our daily conversation. Jeff Buckley is another big inspiration. And Jim Morrison - I mean, we talk about these people like we know them. They're a part of our relationship."
The Strokes: The band, and particularly Julian Casablancas, have said that they have all been influenced by Jim Morrison and The Doors, with particular emphasis shown on 'On The Other Side', a title that heavily references The Doors' original track 'Break On Through (To The Other Side)'.
The Cure: The goth-rock icons recorded their cover of The Doors' No.1 single 'Hello I Love You' for the compilation Rubaiyat in 1990, and performed 'Hello I Love You' live on Jonathan Ross' chat show in 1991.
Soundgarden: Their 1996 hit single 'Waiting For The Sun' was the band's way of paying tribute to The Doors' legacy, whose original version in 1970 was taken from their fifth album, Morrison Hotel.
Massive Attack: The trip-hop duo put their own electronic spin on The Doors' 1966 classic 'Light My Fire' in 2002. The original song has also proved to be a popular cover song with Shirley Bassey, Beastie Boys and Will Young.
Nirvana: The band performed a section of The Doors' 1967 track 'The End' as part of a medley that they performed live at Reading in 1991, alongside their own track 'Blew'.
Iggy Pop: After seeing The Doors perform at the University of Michigan in 1967, Iggy was stunned by the onstage antics of Jim Morrison and continued to admire him during his career. "Here’s this guy, out of his head on acid, dressed in leather with his hair all oiled and curled,” Iggy recalled in 2011. “It got confrontational. Part of me was like, ‘Wow, this is great. He’s really pissing people off and he’s lurching around making these guys angry.’ People were rushing the stage and Morrison’s going “Fuck you. You blank, blank, blank.” It was sort of a case of, “Hey, I can do that.”
Jane's Addiction: Perry Farrell was another 90s vocalist to pay tribute to Morrison by contributing vocals for The Doors in 2009. Jane's Addiction also released 'L.A. Woman' as part of their 'L.A. Medley' which also contained the songs 'Nausea' by X and 'Lexicon Devil by Germs.
Fatboy Slim: Norman Cook sampled Morrison reading 'Bird Of Prey', taken from The Doors' album 'An American Prayer', on Fatboy Slim's 2000 track 'Sunset (Bird Of Prey)'.
Pearl Jam: In 1993, The Doors were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder filled in for the late Jim Morrison and joined remaining band members Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek, and John Densmore in LA for a three song set. It was the perfect tribute.
