'They made it wrong': 8 artists who hate covers of their songs
Artists can be a little possessive sometimes
Yesterday (30 July), Banks took to Facebook after many fans asked why she had given Neon Jungle permission to cover her song on their album when she hasn't released her own yet. The answer? "I was never asked."
It's not actually unprecedented, though, for bands to provoke the wrath of other artists by covering their songs. Musicians have a tendency to be fairly protective over their music, and their reactions when a dodgy cover appears can range from the completely justifiable (Banks), to the tactful (Debbie Harry), to the incredibly bitter (It wasn't actually your song in the first place, Etta James).
