Eddie Murphy has recorded a reggae track and it's not that bad

'Oh Jah Jah' is the actor's return to music

Jada Pinkett Smith: Jada was (and still is, apparently) the front woman of a nu-metal band called Wicked Wisdom who supported Britney Spears on her Onyx Hotel tour AND performed at Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest. So they must have been good, right? No, we said they were a nu-metal band.

Lindsay Lohan: Before her career completely imploded in the most grimly spectacular way possible, Lindsay Lohan was actually a bankable movie star and very much in demand. Riding high on the success of Mean Girls, Lohan released her debut album Speak in 2004. It didn't perform too badly, but that was before people actually listened to it and realised she can barely sing. Which they should have already known from the Jingle Bell Rock scene in Mean Girls.

David Hasselhoff: Mystifyingly, the Hoff has enjoyed an incredible successful music career in his native Germany for decades. He's better known in the UK and US for his role in Baywatch and now being an "eccentric". 'Jump In My Car' was funny the first time we heard it, but less so much now.

Kevin Bacon: The fact that Kevin Bacon is in a musical duo with his brother Michael called The Bacon Brothers is undeniably amazing. Their dad-rock music? Less so.

Eddie Murphy: Look, there's no denying that 'Party All The Time' was and still is a massive tune. But once everyone realised Murphy's music career wasn't actually a joke, it stopped being funny fairly quickly. BUT IT CONTINUES: in 2013 he released a collaboration with Snoop Dogg called 'Red Light'. It didn't set the world alight.

John Travolta: Travolta made his name in musicals, so we know he can sing. But when he tries to do things his own way, it all goes disturbingly wrong. Let us refer you to the duet he released with his daughter Ella Bleu called 'Every Little Step'. It is unspeakably bad, and fairly creepy if you read the lyrics. In the meantime, gaze upon the rather arresting cover for Travolta's self-titled debut album, released in 1976.

Robert Downey Jr: We love Robert Downey Jr. We love his cheeky face. We love him in Iron Man. We love how tiny he is. But his foray into music - we didn't love so much. His 2004 album, The Futurist, was jazzy, pretentious dirge which was rightfully met with disdain from critics.

Bruce Willis: Did you know that in 1987, Die Hard beefcake Bruce Willis released a Motown album of eclectic R&B covers called The Return of Bruno? Well it happened, and against all the odds it was amazing! We're joking, it was fairly terrible. He refused to stick to the day job, releasing follow-up If It Don't Kill You, It Just Makes You Stronger in 1989. Then he stopped. Thankfully.

Eddie Murphy has made a reggae song (yes you heard that right). Listen to the track below.

The song called 'Oh Jah Jah', doesn't attempt to reinvent the wheel at all, instead it plays up to all notions of what a reggae song should be. For all its merits it's not that bad, although without a heads up you'd be hard pushed to hear it was Murphy singing.

It's not the first time Eddie has made forrays into the world of music, having previously reached No.2 on the Billboard charts with 'Party All The Time' in 1985. He also recorded 'Red Light' with Snoop Dogg back in 2013.
