Belle and Sebastian have unveiled the latest single, 'The Cat With The Cream', from their forthcoming ninth album. Listen to it below.

The band have already released two songs from their new album, Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance - 'The Party Line' and 'Nobody's Empire'.

'The Cat With The Cream' takes a fairly explicit jab at modern UK politics, with the lyrics, "Everybody bet and in the government trusted / Grubby little red MP / Yellow flapping hopelessly / Tory like the cat with the cream."

Aston University To Hold Conference On Kraftwerk

Birmingham's Aston University is set to hold the first ever academic conference on Kraftwerk.

The conference, which has been given the grand title Industrielle Volksmusik for the Twenty-First Century: Kraftwerk and the Birth of Electronic Music in Germany, runs for two days on 20 and 21 January.

There have been a huge number of academic papers written about the German electronic band, who are considered pioneers of the genre. For example, Alexei Monroe's "Trans-Slovene Expressions: Kraftwerk on the Sunny Side of the Alps."

As The 405 reports, the conference organisers have said that a "pronounced interdisciplinary approach will provide the methodological framework to the conference." Come on guys, sex it up a bit.

If that didn't quite sell it you, then this might - Kraftwerk's very own Wolfgang Flur will be there reading from his memoirs and taking part in a Q&A.

Tickets can be bought from Aston University's website, and cost £20 for a non-student.

Brody Dalle Hits Out After Macy's Use Her Image 'without Permission'

Brody Dalle has slammed US department store Macy's for using an image of her without permission.

Dalle took to Twitter to complain about a stencil made from a photo of her during her mohican-sporting days in The Distillers, cynically adopted for their 'Fashion Rocks' campaign.

Macy's are yet to respond to her claims.

All-round bad-ass Dalle last made headlines last year when she took aim at J-Lo and Iggy Azalea's track and video 'Booty'. as well as well as contributing songwriter Chris Brown, for his chequered past in which he assaulted Rihanna:

Noel Gallagher: 'If You're No.1 In The Charts Now, You Must Be S**t'

Noel Gallagher has criticised the state of modern pop music, the industry and charts in a new interview.

Speaking to NME, the former Oasis singer lamented the current state of music now compared to the '90s, at the height of Britpop.

"If you're No.1 in the charts now, it automatically means you must be shit," he said.

He continued, "Bands now go cap-in-hand to the industry and the industry has already decided what it wants for the fucking chart stars. But the charts are all the fucking same. Every single song in the Top 10 is the same shit with a different voice."

Gallagher also speculated that "if Oasis were starting tomorrow we would have nowhere near the impact, because you're judged instantly on your first gig, and then Radio 1 will judge you on how many fucking followers you've got on Facebook.

"Oasis never had an A&R at Creation – we were given the fucking keys to the kingdom and they went, 'Off you go, see you in a bit'. Now, the manager is accountable to the A&R guy, who's accountable to the guy above him, who's gonna lose his fucking job."

Deers Have Been Forced To Change Their Name To Hinds

One of 2015's most exciting new bands Deers have been forced to change their name, and are now known as Hinds.

The all-girl, awesome four-piece from Madrid have been gathering hype and momentum over the past months. Bloggers' flavour of the month they may be, but they're much, much more than that. We have no doubt that their warped, punky, youthful exuberance will be soundtracking those mental afteroons will into summer 2015.

However, it will be under a new name.

“This is sadly the most official post we’ve ever made: We have to change our name," said the band in a statement. "We mean…they force us to. We received an email from a Canadian lawyer saying that our name created confusion with his band’s name. And that name is not even Deers (LOL).

"We tried our best, really, but we have no choice. So… Okay!!! Let’s take this with a smile !!!! Deers are now…Hinds! And we are still the same people, we are even the same animal! Unbelievable!! We don’t usually ask you guys for anything, but PLEASE you’d really make this easier for us if you shared this amazing info."

They added: "Let’s have a super 2015!! Hinds Sorry & Thank You See you on tour!!”

The One Show Apologises After 400 People Complain About Rita Ora's Cleavage

The One Show has apologised after over 400 people complained to the BBC about Rita Ora's cleavage.

The singer appeared on the programme to promote the BBC talent show The Voice, on which she is a coach for the first time this year.

Her decision not to wear a top under her jacket appears to have provoked the wrath of many One Show viewers though, who had little else to do with their days than to call in and complain - once they'd stopped hyperventilating from sheer rage.

As The Huffington Post reports, one viewers asked, "Isn't it about time the BBC had a dress code? I do not want to see her boobs hanging out on a family programme. I find it quite disgraceful."

The One Show subsequently took to Facebook to write, "We’re sorry to those of you who were offended by Rita Ora’s choice of outfit on yesterday’s show. If we had been consulted on it we would have requested she wore something more suitable for 7pm."

Another viewer wrote on the BBC Points Of View message board defending the singer though: "Lordy me... all of these complaints about a woman showing a bit of cleavage. This isn't 1950, is it?"

Rita Ora made headlines last year when she was said to be among the victims of the celebrity phone hacking nude photo leak, or 'the fappenning'.

The Voice starts this Saturday on BBC One at 7pm.

Artist Makes Helmet That Translates Brainwaves Into Music

A London artist has created a helmet that translates your brainwaves into music.

Aiste Noreikaite was inspired by Buddhist meditation practices to create the helmet, which uses EEG (electroencephalography) technology to create music based on the person's attentiveness and brain activity.

Speaking of the helmet to The Creators Project, Noreikaite said, "The user hears the sound that is being generated by his brainwaves. The brainwaves recognise themselves in that sound and react to it very positively, then this is looped back to them via sound again and again."

When the user have a clear state of mind, the sounds are sade to become higher, and when they focus on particular subjects, the sounds become faster and more rhythmic.

It's head-scratching stuff.

Jay Z: 'hip Hop Has Done More For Cultural Relations Than Most Cultural Icons'

Jay Z has discussed the cultural impact of hip hop in a new short for the Oprah Winfrey network. Watch the video below.

Obviously the impact of such a revolutionary scene is undeniable and in the new episode of the Master Class series, Jay addresses the various ways it has altered society. In the video he alludes to its impact on racism, government and the club scene.

"Racism is taught in the home. I truly believe that racism is taught when you're young," says Jay Z. "So it's very difficult to teach racism when your kid looks up to Snoop Doggy Dogg."

"I have a very interesting take on the cultural impact of hip hop and it's a strong one, so I just want to prepare people at home," the rapper adds. "I think that hip hop has done more for cultural relations than most cultural icons. And I say save Martin Luther King because his 'Dream' speech we realized and President Obama got elected, but the impact of the music, this music didn't only influence kids from urban areas; it influenced people around the world. People listen to this music all around the world and took to this music."

Brighton sample specialists The Go! Team have returned with the title track of their new album The Scene Between. Stream it below.

The long-awaited followup to 2011's Rolling Blackouts will be released on 23 March on Memphis Industries.

However, rather than being a collaborative project, this is the first Go! Team album that is essentially a solo project of Ian Parton. The frontman elaborates: “I wanted to make an album driven by melody and song writing because catchiness is the hardest thing you can do. Brill Building hooks but permeated with a kind of wobbly VHS feel.”

Rise To Remain Split, Despite Finishing Second Album

Rise To Remain have announced that they've split up after six years together, despite having put together a second album.

The band's frontman Austin Dickinson broke the news that the band have called it a day in an interview with Kerrang, where he also announced that he's formed a new band - As Lions.

Rise To Remain formed in 2008, but only released one full-length album in their time together - 2011's City Of Vultures.

They've been working on a second album since 2013, and in February of last year, they revealed the first single off the album, 'Over and Over'. Despite finishing the album though, it's not been released, and it's not looking like it ever will be.

In a statement on their Facebook, Dickinson wrote, "Living the dream, in many cases, is not enough to hold it all together when the band is not stable, and after putting together the second record, Adam told us he was in a place where he felt the pressure of the album and the upcoming cycle and couldn’t continue, leading Ben to quit music altogether."

He continued, "To continue the band at this point, with as many line up changes as its had, with the two original members being Will and myself, seems pointless."

As Lions release their debut EP in spring.

New Manic Street Preachers Documentary No Manifesto To Hit Cinemas

A new documentary about Manic Street Preachers is set to hit cinemas this month before a full DVD release. Watch the full No Manifesto trailer below.

No Manifesto is a film by WibblyWobbly productions, comprising footage that begins during the band's 2005 Past, Present and Future tour and spanning tours and recording sessions for subsequent albums leading up towards the present day.

"For the making of No Manifesto, the Manics provided unprecedented access," said the filmmakers in a statement. "The film tells the story of the band’s rise from mouthy punks to international renown, takes a fascinating look at the band's creative process, and joins them on tour.

"By combining footage shot at home and on the road with rare archival materials and fan interviews that provide commentary, lore, criticism and praise, No Manifesto gives a comprehensive look at a most unusual band."

Premieres of the film will begin in cinemas at the end of this month, before a general release on DVD and Blu-Ray on 16 February 2015.

Jarvis Cocker Returning To 6 Music After A Year's 'recovery'

Jarvis Cocker is set to return to his BBC 6 Music show after taking a year-long break in order to "recover."

The Pulp singer had presented a Sunday Service programme since 2009, but announced his temporary departure at the start of last year, when his slot was taken over by Iggy Pop.

When he announced his sabbatical, Cocker said: "Crop Rotation has long been recognised as a way of preserving the fertility of the soil. Every now and again a field has to be left fallow for a year in order to make sure it has time to recover. In 2014, I will be that field."

As Digital Spy reports, that field has now recovered - and on 1 March, Cocker will return to present his Sunday Service programme, which is broadcast from 4-6pm.

White Stripes To Release Lavish Live Album Under Amazonian Lights

To mark ten years since The White Stripes toured Get Behind Me Satan, Third Man Records have announced a lavish live album.

Vault Package #23 from the label centres around a double blood red vinyl LP Under Amazonian Lights recorded live at the grand Teatro Amazonas Opera House in Manaus, Brazil on 1st June 2005. A DVD of live footage from the gig is also included.

The performance itself was described by the local press at the time as 'delicious irresponsible' and was the first rock concert held at the venue. It concluded with a raucous unplugged performance of 'We Are Going To Be Friends' outside the gig which incited a near riot.

Last night it was announced that Jack White will headline Coachella alongside AC/DC and Drake. White will play the festival on 11 April and 18 April at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

Neil Young's PonoPlayer Will Be Available For Purchase Next Week

Neil Young's high quality audio player PonoPlayer is finally due for release, hitting stores next week.

In what has been a big week for high quality audio players, with Sony's Walkmen returning with a $1,199.99 model, Neil Young is now stepping up to show the company what's what. The PonoPlayer, which was funded through a $6 million Kickstarter, will retail for $399 with a store that offers new and old albums in high fidelity formats.

The player is available to preorder for delivery in February, but will hit retail in American store Fry's on Monday 12 January. The Pono online store meanwhile is already up and running in preparation.

Dr. Dre And Jimmy Iovine Sued Over Alleged Beats Deal Misconduct

Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are being sued for alleged misconduct with Beats audio leading into the deal with Apple.

A complaint filed with the courts alleges that the duo swindled Noel Lee, of audio-cable making firm Monster out of his part of the company. Originally Lee owned 5% of the company as part of a partnership between his company and Dre's.

Things took an supposed underhanded turn however when Jimmy Iovine and Dre organised a "sham" deal that effectively terminated the Monster and Beats partnership. The suit filed at San Mateo Superior Court yesterday (6 January), states that Lee was swindled out of tens of millions of dollars by the maneuvering.

Following the disbandment of the partners, Dre. and Iovine entered negoatiations with Apple, securing a deal that would eventually net them $3 billion.

Ellie Goulding has revealed her latest single, 'Love Me Like You Do', from the Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack. Listen below.

Her first new release of the year was produced by Max Martin, who worked with Taylor Swift on 1989 and Katy Perry on Teenage Dream.

It's a pleasantly restrained ballad, which then bursts into a more anthemic chorus about halfway through, and becomes more akin to the size of the blockbuster it soundtracks.

Adam Lambert: 'I'm Not Replacing Freddie Mercury, There'll Never Be Another'

Adam Lambert has spoken out about his current role singing with Queen, vowing that he'll never 'replace' Freddie Mercury but that he'll 'keep his memory alive'.

The American Idol star turned pop sensation has been performing and touring with the legends for some years now, and is gearing up for a massive run of UK arena shows in 2015.

Speaking with Brian May and Roger Taylor in the latest issue of Classic Rock magazine, Lambert opens up about the legacy of the late icon Freddie Mercury, and what it means to take his place on stage.

"There's never going to be another, and I'm not replacing him," said Lambert. "That's not what I'm doing. I'm trying to keep the memory alive, and remind people how amazing he was, without imitating him. I'm trying to share with the audience how much he inspired me."

Brian May continued: "Adam is the first person we've encountered who can do all the Queen catalogue without blinking. He is a gift from god," before drummer Roger Taylor, added: "He's incredibly musical, and we certainly take anything he says quite seriously."

Slipknot Are Planning To Record Their Next Album After Tour

You may be hearing from Slipknot again sooner than you think, with the band planning to write the new album following their current tour.

Speaking to Music Radar, Mick Thompson and Jim Root outlined the band's plans to start the process once .5: The Gray Chapter's touring cycle is over. Considering there was a six year wait for the new record this is great news for fans.

“It enables us to have songs in the can already before we go in a studio to work on a new album," said guitarist Mick Thompson. "We hope to do our next record sooner after touring .5. We don’t want to spend the same"

Jim Root then added: “I’m constantly writing, maybe a little more than other guys in the band. I find it a very therapeutic thing to do on the road, where you’re estranged from your hobbies. But there are many cooks in the kitchen, so I never really had much opportunity to put my stuff forward before.”

Carl Barat has announced a new single 'A Storm Is Coming', taken from his debut album with new band The Jackals, Let It Reign. Listen to the track below.

Following on from his first single 'Glory Days' and stunning headline performance for Gigwise at London's 100 Club, the track is the second single to be taken from Barat's new album.

Produced by The Bronx's Joby J Ford, it's a rambunctious garage rock with references to William Blake, the questioning of identity and is packing full of foreboding - Barat in particular sounds like a sort of indie rock Travis Bickle.

Barat and his fellow Libertines recently signed a new record deal with Virgin EMI, meaning that we can expect the third Libertines studio album later this year. Barat said of the announcement: "After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, and we couldn't be more excited. This signals a new era and a new beginning for The Libertines."

The band are also strongly rumoured to be headlining at Glastonbury this summer.
