Kanye West Glastonbury headliner controversy saw death threats Photo: Press
Emily Eavis has spoken out about the controversy around booking Kanye West as a Glastonbury headliner - revealing that she received death threats as a result.

Following the announcement that Yeezy would be topping the bill on the Pyramid Stage, a petition to ban him from Worthy Farm gathered over 100,000 signatures (there was also a mock one to have him replaced with Alan Partridge). So strong was the opposition, that the man who started the original petition told Gigwise that he'd never even been to Glastonbury

We disagree, and think Kanye is a genius booking and will absolutely own Glasto - however things took a much more serious turn for the Eavises.

“It was not a pleasant world we unwrapped,” Emily Eavis told the Times. “I had death threats and stuff. It was just horrible. It was just crazy. It was getting out of control. We had Time magazine, all the American news channels saying they were going to come down. This incredible onslaught worldwide. "

She continued: “It was quite upsetting because we were talking about something that was so exciting and interesting and fresh and brilliant for the festival. Kanye West is making the most exciting music at the moment. He is an amazing force as a performer. For us, getting the biggest star in the world was an amazing coup."

Eavis also revealed that the final major Glasto announcement would be coming in June, although this week alone has seen huge line-ups revealed for the Left Field Stage, Shangri-La, Silver Hayes and The Glade

Glastonbury 2015 takes place at Worthy Farm from 24 - 28 June at Worthy Farm in Somerset. The stellar bill already features headliners Foo Fighters, Kanye West and The Who, with the likes of Florence + The Machine, Paul Weller, Patti Smith, Pharrell Williams and loads more also set to perform.
