Angel Haze has spoken out against the decision to exclude Dr. Dre's history of violence against women in the new NWA biopic, saying, "Put it in the fucking movie... Everybody knows what happened."
According to various testimonies, including her own, journalist Dee Barnes was beaten "mercilessly" by Dre at a record release party back in the 90s. At the time, Rolling Stone reported that Dre encountered Barnes at a record release party in Hollywood, and "picked her up by her hair and 'began slamming her head and the right side of her body repeatedly against a brick wall near the stairway' as his bodyguard held off the crowd with a gun."
Meanwhile his ex-girlfriend, R&B singer Michel'le, has also accused the rapper and businessman of abusing her while they were together. Neither of these aspects of Dre's history is featured in the recent NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton.
In a new interview with NME, Angel Haze said, "I feel like if a person has done something at any point in their life, and they wanna get all biographical and shit, they should at least admit to it."
Haze continued, "Even if he doesn't feel like he did anything wrong, or he feels like that was a part of the culture or some shit, fine, everybody has a right to their own perspective. But if you hurt someone else, the least you can do is apologise and the best form of apology is honesty. Just say, 'Fuck, this is what happened.' And put it in the fucking movie. Who cares. Everybody knows about it. Everybody knows what happened."
Meanwhile, Michell'le recently responded to an apology issued by Dre, in which he said he "deeply regrets" what he did, telling BBC Radio 5 Live, "I don't really think it's a sincere apology. I didn’t ask for a public apology and I think if he is going to apologise he should do it individually.
"To just group us like we are nothing and nobody - I just don’t think it’s sincere, treat us like we have names."
