Bono has spoken out about the Eagles of Death Metal massacre in the French capital and has expressed his sincere remorse for the victims, who were ultimately music fans.

In an interview with Irish DJ, David Fanning, the U2 lead singer said, "Our first thoughts at this point are with the Eagles of Death Metal fans. If you think about it, the majority of victims last night are music fans. This is the first direct hit on music that we’ve had in this so-called War on Terror or whatever it’s called. It's very upsetting. These are our people. This could be me at a show."

Bono went on to describe the familiarity of the situation for any music lover, which reflects on the coldblooded nature of the killings: “It's a very recognizable situation for you and for me and the coldblooded aspect of this slaughter is deeply disturbing and that’s what I can’t get out of my head.”

During the time of the attacks, Bono was rehearsing with U2, less than three miles away from Le Bataclan concert hall, in preparation for their gig in Paris on the following day. The band has since cancelled their French gigs indefinitely.

Members of U2 visited the memorial site next to Le Bataclan, where they left flowers in memory of the victims.

U2 played in New York’s Madison Square Garden a month after the attacks of 9/11. Bono still remembers the three nights U2 played there and said, “The feeling of Madison Square Garden was just unbelievable and the feeling was just this is who we are, you can’t change it."

He continued, “You’re not going to turn us into haters or you're not going to turn us around in the way we go about our lives. That was the feeling of Madison Square Garden back then and I hope that will be the feeling at Bercy when we get back there.”

U2 are set to complete their Innocence + Experience tour in Dublin at the end of November, promoting their 2014 album, Songs of Innocence. For tickets and more information, click here.
