Peter Doherty has just unveiled 'I Don't Love Anyone (But You're Not Just Anyone)', giving a taste of what's to come from new solo album, Hamburg Demonstrations, which will be out on 2 December.

Doherty has played this song at shows all around Europe music with his incredible new band featuring Drew McConnell (bass), Miki Beavis (Violin), Rafa (drums), and Katia De Vidas (keys). Now a recording of it that was made prior to forming this line up sees the light of day as a single.

The audio was recorded by Johann Scheerer (Faust/Bosnian Rainbows/Gallon Drunk/Omar Rodriguéz-Lopéz) at Clouds Hill Recordings, Hamburg (Germany) using an 8 Track 2“ Studer A820 tape machine and mixed onto a 1/4“ Telefunken master machine. The result is outstanding. It's an uncompromising approach that captures the quality of Doherty's intricate acoustic picking superbly.

The acoustic guitar which dominates the intro sits further back in the mix as the song prevails. It gives way to a bright clean guitar chords as atmospheric lead melodies flutter around the main structure of the song, heightening the overall mood led by Doherty's astounding lead vocal.

The way Doherty's vocal is recorded gives it an intimate live feel as you can hear his delivery very closely with every emotional attachment to the words captured with meaningful conviction. This is possibly helped as recording on to tape doesn't give you infinite takes and you just have to make the decision to go for it and get it right without second guessing too much. The result is something real, vintage, and not overly shiny for radio. The way it's mastered will make it sound huge on even the most modest of stereos, though.

Hamburg Demonstrations includes a new recording of the Amy Winehouse tribute ‘Flags Of The Old Regime’ (now called ‘Flags From The Old Regime’). The album also features 'Hell To Pay At The Gates Of Heaven’ written after the Paris attacks last November – it laments the fact that young people are now picking up guns instead of guitars “Come on boys choose your weapon J-45 or AK-47?” (Gibson J-45 being John Lennon’s favourite acoustic guitar),’Kolly Kibber’ inspired by Kolley Kibber, the newspaper man who meets a sticky end at the beginning of Brighton Rock and ‘A Spy In The House Of Love’ a title borrowed from the Anaïs Nin novel. The album will be an immense listen. We cannot wait.
