Democratic hopeful Barack Obama name checked US rapper Lil' Wayne during a town hall meeting in Georgia yesterday (July 9th).
Obama was addressing a crowd of youngsters in Powder Springs about the importance of staying in school.
Talking about dropping out of school to pursue a music or basketball career, Obama said: “You are probably not that good a rapper. Maybe you are the next Lil Wayne, but probably not, in which case you need to stay in school.”
Obama's reference to the rapper, who is currently number one on the US Album chart, triggered a standing ovation amongst the audience.
The former Illinois senator, who will run against Republican John McCain in the presidential race this November, has already drawn support from a number of musicians.
