Kylie Minogue has revealed that she has begun work on a new album.

The Australian released 'The Abbey Road Sessions' last Monday. The LP is a selection of her greatest hits with an orchestral accompaniment, recorded at the iconic London studios.

But in an interview with Yahoo OMG, she told fans she began work on new material at the start of 2012.

She explained: "I have started work on the next album,

"Obviously this year has had me focused on other things but when I had a bit of time – actually in January, that long ago – I took my first steps into the studio."

The 43-year-old went on to say that although the process is underway, the new material is still very much a 'work in progress'.

She added: "Next year will be the time to really get stuck in. I don't know studio-wise where [it] will take me."

The star also gave away some details about how the new record is likely sound, hinting that it could be influenced by an 'Ibiza style' dance sound.

"I imagine it will be as always a mixture of songs I write and songs that come in that are killer tracks that I want.

"I said earlier in the year that I would love the next album to embrace my inner Ibiza but I think most of them do anyway."

In contrast, Kylie's most recent single, 'Flower', is a personal ballad. She spoke about how pleased she was with the track's reaction, given how much of an unexpected move it was.

"It's been interesting this year with a song like 'Flower', which is such a personal song and so different to what people would expect from me.

"But the response to that has been amazing and people have really responded to it being a personal story so I'm keen to find a way where I could marry the two."

'The Abbey Road Sessions' was released on EMI last week. It features re-workings of hits including 'Can't Get You Out of My Head', 'I should Be So Lucky', and the Nick Cave collaboration 'Where the Wild Roses Grow'.
