Nas has revealed he doesn't understand why there has been so much controversy over Quentin Tarantino's use of the n-word in his new movie, Django Unchained.

Speaking to MTV News, Nas said that he had seen the film and didn't understand why Tarantino was being criticised for it.

"I didn't see what the big fuss was about," he said. "It's a movie, movies by [Tarantino], why should we be surprised if the movie is raw?"

Nas also pointed out that the context was important, as the movie focuses on the horrors of slavery and is from a director known for 'language' and 'goriness'.

He added, "He's one of the greatest filmmakers of our generation, and we don't go there to see anything less than rawness. He's an artist, and artists have to express themselves."

Nas recently received four Grammy nominations for his album, Life Is Good, which he describes to STV as "a piece that really told you about my life, about my divorce, without doing too much, without telling too much."

His song 'Daughters', from Life Is Good, is nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance, and is inspired by his daughter Destiny Jones.

Speaking about Destiny's reaction to the track, Nas said, "It was just a thing. She's used to me making music and she's used to me doing things, doing songs that are personal.

"Never about her so personal, but I think part of her just knows that this was something that was weighing heavy on my heart, you know, and I think she gave me a pass for that."
