Scissor Sisters frontwoman Ana Matronic says she's excited about this year's Eurovision Song Contest, saying it's like a drag pageant on steroids.
Ana, who's been hosting the preliminary coverage of the competition in the UK alongside DJ Scott Mills, first got wind of the contest in 1998 when news of Isreali transsexual Dana International's win hit the US gay scene.
"This is my first time. I love it," she told The Sun in a new interview. "I got my start at a drag club and this is like a drag pageant on steroids - and on a reallly good budget.
"I feel right at home! I'd heard of Eurovision before. I think it first bled over into my world when Dana International won."
"That was big news in the gay world in San Francisco, where I was at the time. And then a few years ago when Lordi (the masked Finnish hard rock band who won in 2006) won that made big news in the States."
Despite the fact that the US has never been directly involved in the competition, they're still aware of it.
"They know about the Eurovision Song Contest through Abba. People know it's a very pop-orientated contest," Ana explained.
Scissor Sisters came to prominence through the US gay scene and Ana says the band would love to have a go at the contest at sometime, though for now she's enjoying being in the commentary box.
"When we first arrived on the scene in 2004 people described us as being 'so Eurovision'.
"It's so much fun to be able to tell my husband that I just saw a show with Greek men in kilts and a Finnish woman who walks around in her wedding dress all day.
Bonnie Tyler is the UK's entry for this year's contest
"Sure I'd take to the stage at Eurovision. I'm a Scissor Sister, come on! But I like commentating too much.
"I'm having the time of my life."
And she's even hopeful for British entry, Bonnie Tyler, saying she has the stongest ballad in the contest.
The Eurovision Song Contest takes place tomorrow (May 18), held in Malmo, Sweden.
