Teen star Lorde has discussed the fates of previous young superstars Britney Spears and Amanda Bynes after rocketing to huge stateside success.

The New Zealand star recently hit the US Top Ten with her single 'Royals', and UK success is expected to follow. However, at only 16, she is hoping to avoid the troubled adult lives experienced by other former stars who experienced fame at a young age.

"Britney [Spears] is fun," says Lorde, when quizzed in a new interview for VH1. "It was really interesting to me to read like the Rolling Stone article when she was like 17 and to get that story of her being this total sweetheart in America... which I find crazy."

She also discusses actress Amanda Bynes, whose public breakdown has been widely publicised, and who was recently deemed mentally unfit to stand trial in the US, after claiming she was sexually harrassed by a police officer.

"The whole world is just wanting to know what’s going to happen next," she adds. "You don’t even need TV. You can just go on Amanda Bynes’s twitter."
