Lady Gaga has once again discussed her use of the drug cannabis, claiming that new album ARTPOP was recorded in a haze of marijuana after undergoing hip-surgery in early 2013.
The 'Applause' singer has long been an outspoken advocate for cannabis, setting a fine example for her millions of young, impressionable fans. Now, in the final stretches of her ARTPOP album promotion, she claims the album was recorded while she was high and that she relied heavily on the drug to see her through the last stretch of her Born This Way Ball tour.
"I was just numbing, numbing, numbing myself then sleeping it off, then getting on stage, killing it in pain, then getting off and smoking, smoking, smoking, not knowing what pain was," she says in an interview with Attitude magazine.
"Fuck, if I know what hurts the most, you know? I would break the habit and it would sneak back in and I would break it and sneak back in."
She also blames the struggles she faced as a woman in music during her early years as a performer on her reliance on drugs, and reveals men in music wanted sex with her instead of listening to her music.
"I went through terrible experiences early in my career climbing through swine and swine of men in the music industry – just trying to get somebody to listen to my music and take me seriously as a songwriter instead of trying to get me to blow them" she adds.
‘I was less drunk and more high on this record. If that makes sense."
