Paloma Faith has spoken out about the lack of great popstars in music today, hailing David Bowie as the last true great of his generation.
The eccentric British singer, whose current album A Perfect Contradiction is currently battling it out with Elbow to be this week's No.1, said that stars had lost their magic.
"There’s no mystery or excitement about being a pop star any more," she told the Daily Star. "People know everything now, there’s no stone unturned with social media."
She continued: "It was brilliant that David Bowie won a BRIT Award and totally deserved, he’s an incredible artist and the last of a generation."
To add to her own enigma, Faith said she even wished the public knew much less about her - but that the needs of modern media depended on it.
"I wish they didn’t know everything about me," she said. "Originally when I got in the music business I wanted to be mysterious but I realised I wouldn’t get anywhere so became really open. "It’s the only way to sell records now."
