Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason has joined the scores of critics of U2, slamming them for 'horribly devaluing music'.
U2 caused controversy by giving away their latest album Songs Of Innocence to all iTunes users. Some saw it as generous, while others felt that it was 'forced on them'.
However, Nick Mason's criticism comes from the fact that it was given away for free.
"It was so unexpected, I thought, and interesting that people took such umbrage at being given something," he told Rolling Stone. "That does devalue things. Music has been horribly devalued by being given away. It's funny they didn't sense some of that. It's been the big story of the 21st century, music being de-valued."
Since its surprise release on 9 September, the band's 13th studio LP was downloaded 26 million times worldwide and has been apparently heard by 38 million people.
Meanwhile, Pink Floyd are gearing up to release their new album The Endless River on 8 November.
