Kanye West: No stranger to controversy, Kanye embraced it once again with his album cover for 'G.O.O.D.' today. The album cover features an angel topless and covering her breasts with her hands - a follow-up to the equally risky cover for 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.' Kanye is used to flirting with controversy - after all, who could forget the famous Taylor Swift interruption at the VMAs? Now, we're going to let you finish, but...
Madonna: Since ''Like A Prayer'', Madonna has proved that she knows exactly what to do to keep attention firmly on her. Religious imagery soon gave way to ''that book'' - her coffee table book named ''Sex.'' Since then, Madonna has taken part in one stunt after another, most recently brandishing guns on stage, posting Nazi symbols on the face of French politicians and of course - getting naked time and time again.
Professor Green: A recent addition to the group, Professor Green made headlines earlier this week when he called bulimia an 'intelligent eating disorder.' Green knew exactly what he was doing, as he tweeted only minutes later: "queue all the people who start telling me how insensitive i am and how bulimia jokes aren't funny yadda yadda yadda." And clearly controversy worked well for him, as only a few days later he took to Twitter again to call Kristen Stewart a "sl*tbag."
Lady Gaga: And of course we couldn't have this list without our old favourite Lady Gaga. From her recent naked photos (and did we really need to see those?) to 'Judas,' the singer thrives on controversy. We're willing to bet she's one of those 'no such thing as bad publicity' believers, because Gaga gets a lot.
Marilyn Manson: Where to start with Marilyn Manson? His name references a famous cult leader and murderer, his very appearance is designed to shock, and that''s before we even mention Satanism or his weird, weird videos. Manson knows exactly what he''s doing, and just how well it works for him.
Eminem: The rapper has been called ''misogynistic scum'' and that''s one of the nicer things said about him. He had his records banned in 2001 for using the word ''f*g'' and his own mother launched a $10m lawsuit against him for using the lyrics "my mom smokes more dope than I do" on the hit ''My Name Is.'' Considering that his last album sold over 4 million copies, we''d be willing to bet that he won''t stop any time soon.
Ozzy Osbourne: Alright, so the aging rocker might seem a bit past it now but let's not forget that this is the same man who once bit the head off a bat onstage. Anyone with a section labelled 'Controversy' on their Wikipedia page no doubt knows how to keep their career on a high.
Rihanna: Never one to back away from the big issues, Rihanna''s videos encapsulate everything from S&M to shooting a man in a revenge-rape scenario. Add to that her marijuana smoking habits, the time she got kicked out of a British field for running around with her boobs out and her sheer unapologetic attitude and Rihanna''s got to be one of our favourite controversial stars ever.
Christina Aguilera: She's pretty boring right now, we'll admit, but back in the 'Dirrty' days Christina was something else. Raunchy music videos and out of control behaviour followed, and Aguilera's album sales rocketed. Maybe the singer needs to ditch the new image and get a little... dirrrrty.
Trent Reznor: We all know Nine Inch Nails'' ''Closer''. The song horrified people across the globe, the music video was banned and cemented Trent Reznor''s status as an industrial rock star. The music video featured, amongst other things, Reznor wearing a ball gag and a monkey tied to a cross. Reznor never stopped courting controversy since, most recently encouraging fans to steal music - "steal and steal and steal some more and give it to all your friends and keep on stealin''," he insisted at a live gig.
