Where the biggest stars in music live in London - and what it says about them

Spoiler: they're not exactly slumming it

Damon Albarn - Notting Hill: The Blur frontman grew up in East London's Leytonstone. He's now enjoying the "Park Life" (ouch) in the decidedly posher Notting Hill. What it says about him: Likes Hugh Grant. Doesn't mind an annual carnival.

Liam Gallagher - Hampstead: The former Oasis frontman currently lives in one of London's most expensive and ridiculous areas. What it says about him: Enjoys taking walks. Doesn't mind paying 10 quid for a loaf of artisan bread.

Sting - Highgate Village: Houses can go for between 4 million and 10 million in Highgate Village. That means 'Roxanne' must have sold rather a lot of copies over the years. What it says about him: Old-fashioned. Like to pretend he doesn't live in London, but the countryside. Probably has enough room for all of that tantric sex he has with wife Trudie.

Gwen Stefani - Primrose Hill: Bloody hell, North London's popular isn't it? Its charms are enough to lure No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani away from New York and LA, anyway. What it says about her: Enjoys walking dogs. Doesn't mind being suffocated by an army of smug mums every time she leaves the house. Has a tab at Gail's Bakery.

Noel Gallagher - Maida Vale: Noel lives on the opposite side of London from his brother, and nemesis, Liam. Maida Vale seems like a bit of a funny place to live, but there we go. What it says about him: Likes canals. Wants to be as far away from Liam as possible - without straying south of the Thames - obviously.

Chris Martin - Belsize Park: The affluent areas of North London are clearly the place for musicians to reside. Wonder if he ever pops round for a cup of tea with Gwen? What it says about him: Feels a bit more down to earth living between Hampstead and Camden rather than just going the whole hog and living in Hampstead.

Elton John - Holland Park: Where the hell is Holland Park, anyway? Oh, it's in London's most expensive borough, Kensington and Chelsea. Duh. What it says about him: Likes a nice view of a park. Probably has enough room for his pianos.

Mick Jagger - Richmond: Well, he wasn't exactly going to be renting a studio flat in Whitechapel, was he? What it says about him: Likes Whole Foods and rather big houses.

Isn't London great? It's one of the best cities in the world (probably THE best when the sun's out) and there's nowhere quite like it. Amongst its 8 million citizens are some rather famous musicians.

However, whilst we're paying £700 a month to live in a studio flat above a chicken shop on a main road, they reside in slightly more comfotable surroundings - understandably, as they're quite rich and successful.

Rather stalkerishly, we've tracked down some of London's most famous musical residents (not that hard - most of them are in North London). Here's where they live in this great city, and what it says about them. Kind of.
