Adam Lambert has discussed the continuing pressure on gay Hollywood actors to stay in the closet, admitting, "I've been with a few of them."
The singer, who was a contestant on American Idol in 2009, and began touring as the lead singer of Queen in 2014, came out as gay shortly after finishing American Idol.
In a 2012 interview with Pressparty, he said, "I still long for the LGBT community's diversity to be more broadly represented in the entertainment industry. I think larger strides have been made in film and TV but we still are just at the beginning with mainstream music. I consider myself a post-gay man working in a pre-gay industry.
Despite these large strides in film and TV though, he still recognises the pressures on male Hollywood actors to stay in the closet. "I've been with a few of them," he told Glamour. "Whether it's music or acting, you’ve got to remember that those industries are primarily run by men, so maybe it’s about that."
He continued, "But with women being the primary movie-goers and record-buyers, surely it shouldn’t matter so much?"
Lambert's third album, The Original High, is due for release on 12 June.
