As fans mourn the cancellation of Foo Fighters' upcoming UK dates, it has been revealed that Dave Grohl wanted Sir Paul McCartney and Kanye West to join him on stage at Glastonbury.
Last week saw Grohl break his leg after falling off stage in Sweden, before he gave a heartfelt apology to fans over having to cancel all UK dates, including Wembley. Glasto then announced that Florence + The Machine would be replacing them as headliners.
Now in an interview that has emerged from before Grohl's accident, he reveals his ambitions for what would have been an epic headline slot - all sparking from his appearance with Macca at his O2 Arena show earlier this year.
"I just raced down there and had a bunch of drinks watching the show by the side of the stage," Grohl told NME. "Then, before the encore Paul came over and said, 'what song are you coming up to play?' I was like UHHHHHHH – I didn't have a guitar, I’d had like 17 beers. He's like, 'OK, you're doing 'I Saw Her Standing There'. Then he walks back onstage and I’m like FUCK! I turn to one of his techs, they hand me the guitar and they're just like 'GO!' That’s how that happened. So if Paul happens to be standing round the side of the stage at Glastonbury, this time it’ll be me saying: 'Paul! 'All My Life'! It's in the key of G. Let’s go.'"
Asked whether he’d consider inviting fellow headliner Kanye West on stage, who tops the bill on the Saturday night, Grohl replied, "Sure! Why the fuck not?"
Meanwhile, if you've still got your train tickets and hotel to Wembley booked, then fear not - as a Foo Fighters tribute band will be performing there at a nearby venue.
