Could we see more Drones over Worthy Farm

The Glastonbury 2016 line-up won't be released in full until the new year, but that hasn't stopped tickets selling out in record time or the rumour mill spinning out of control. The latest comes courtesy of Muse being named as the latest bookies' favourites to headline. Could the Drones tour make a stop at Worthy Farm?

The 'Pyscho' space-rockers have headlined the festival twice before - but have teased that they are 'hoping' to perform at Glasto next year

Now, Betfair have slashed odds of Muse topping the bill.

“It’s likely that by this point the headline acts will have been agreed and finalised, so after a flurry of bets from the Sheffield area on Muse, they have gone from 12/1 to 2/1 to take the Pyramid stage on the Saturday," said Betfair's Colm Rock.

“Adele has been the odds-on favourite in this market, with a global number one and a new album out but has drifted to 11/4 second favourites. Stone Roses were also a popular bet ahead of their new tour announcement two weeks ago and remain 7/2 third favourites."

He added: "With rumours circulating of a Guns N’ Roses world reunion tour it’s 25/1 that the tour will include headlining Glastonbury, but it might take a David Grohl-esque incident with Muse or the Stone Roses for them to be in with a shot at this point.”

The awesomely-named Mr Rock is wrong about one thing though - as Michael Eavis revealed that headliners for Glastonbury have already been booked for the next two years.

  • Muse: They were born to headline festivals and Glasto is the daddy of them all. With a massive epic Drones arena tour booked for Spring, but they top off the year with their third Glasto headline spot?

  • Fleetwood Mac: It's been rumoured since forever, so it has to happen. There's talk of new material, so maybe 2016 will be their year?

  • Queen: Brian May says they are 'interested' in headlining Glasto with Adam Lambert - so are we. They've got enough legendary hits and prowess to blow all other Sunday night headliners in history out of the water.

  • Rihanna: With her eighth album on the horizon, could she be next year's wildcard? The next step from Beyonce, Jay Z and Kanye? Petition your hearts out, we think she'd be pretty decent.

  • Madonna: The same goes for our Madge, providing she keeps her cape at home. It's a long fall from the Pyramid Stage.

  • Paul McCartney: With no signs of retiring, Macca will never stop touring, surely? Either way, he's not been at Glasto since 2004 so is probably due a return in the legends' slot.

  • Taylor Swift: Eavis says he 'would love' for her to play, and she's the biggest pop star on the planet so why not?

  • Prince: It just wouldn't be Glastonbury without a rumour of the Purple One now, would it?

  • The Killers: Brandon Flowers may be touring his stunning second solo LP The Desired Effect right now, but the band are already in talks on new material. Surely we can hope for a massive comeback of sorts in 2016? Perhaps it's time for them to outdo their divisive 2007 headline performance?

  • Radiohead: They're Glasto veterans, but haven't headlined since 2003. It's been a bloody long time coming, and they're said to be making new material as we speak. This would be a pretty historic set to see off Glasto before its fallow year.

  • Coldplay: They've headlined so many times that they're basically the Glasto houseband. Their 'final' album, A Headful Of Dreams, is coming soon - Glastonbury sounds like the perfect goodbye, surely? Rumour has it that Michael Eavis has confirmed it to 'close sources'.

  • Oasis: The rumour mill continues. Have they buried the hatchet or not? Is Liam reviving the band without Noel? Who knows what goes on behind closed tours? But if Noel finishes off touring his world-conquering solo album Chasing Yesterday, who knows what next year could hold? Bookies fancy their chances, and they're tipped for other massive gigs next year too.

  • The Strokes: Their 2015 shows and glorious British Summer Time set at Hyde Park proved that they've still got something special, and the world is hungry. Maybe by next summer they have put all drama to bed to storm back with some new material? The Glasto Pyramid Stage is crying out for them.

  • Foo Fighters: Early reports suggest that the Foos have already signed up to play next year, and the bookies too have named them favourites to come back and make up their disappointing no-show this year.

  • Adele: Currently the bookies' favourites, her long-awaited third album 25 is rumoured for a November release. After 21 shifted more than 30million copies worldwide, massive shows surely beckon - but can she get over her hatred for mud and wellies to top Glastonbury? Can she fill the Pyramid Stage alone?
