Lady Gaga has once again voiced her support for Kesha over her recent legal case with Dr. Luke, the man she alleges raped and sexually assaulted her, asking, "Why is [the] victim always the liar'?"
As previously reported, Kesha filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke back in 2014, claiming that he had sexually and emotionally abused her over the course of a decade. On one occasion, she says, Dr. Luke forced her to snort something before getting on a plane, "and during the trip he forced himself on her while she was drugged."
In her suit, the singer asked to be allowed to record with a label not owned by her alleged abuser. On Friday (19 February), a judge ruled that she could not be released from her contract, and is still obliged to record four more albums under Dr. Luke's label.
Lady Gaga has voiced her support for Kesha several times in the past week, and last night took to Instagram to screenshot a comment she'd made to a fan on an earlier post. "The very reason women don't speak up for years," she said, "is the fear no one will believe them or their abuser has threatened their life [...] in order to keep the victim quiet."
She added, "What happened to Kesha has happened to many female artists including myself and it will affect her for the rest of her life. No one needs to validate Kesha. Why is victim [sic] always the 'liar' why do we let people in a position of power get away with behaving in humanely?"
