Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has criticised ex-frontman Tom Delonge, saying that he wanted the band to sound more like U2 or Coldplay.
The band released their last album, Neighbourhoods in 2011, just before DeLonge was left the band. Last year, the singer was replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba.
In an interview with Youtuber Mr Wavvy, Barker described Skiba as "the only person" that could fill in for DeLonge. On DeLonge's departure, he said: "You got two of the three members and one has basically just tapped out and is being extremely difficult and won't compromise."
The drummer continued, "Mark and I never wanted to change. The last couple of albums, Tom wanted to sound like U2, to record songs that basically sound like Coldplay. For us, we were always like 'Blink is Blink, man. We want to sound like fucking Blink-182'… That's what side-projects are for. I love Blink for what it is. We love Blink and we love the sound of Blink."
The new Blink-182 suit is working on a new album. Barker described their music as "eternal youth for a lot of fans."

In an interview with NME last year, Barker discussed the addition of Skiba to the line-up, "He’s fun to play with and write with. We’re just getting started but I think we’ve got, like, four or five songs right now that I’m really, really happy with. There’s a song called 'Punk Rock Cliché', which I love the most right now. It's about friends of ours and their relationships."
Barker continued to describe their new sound, "They sound different but still the same [...] Obviously, it’s Matt Skiba singing so there’s hints of Alkaline Trio, or at least Matt’s contributions to Alkaline Trio, mixed with my drumming and Mark’s voice and stuff. It’s really cool and I really love what we’ve done so far."
Recently, Mark Hoppus posted a clip on his Instagram of the new Blink-182 frontman singing.
