The Roots are the first, and hopefully the last, band to pull out of scheduled David Bowie tribute shows. Band member, Questlove, has claimed that the “bitchassness” of other artists performing is the reason why the band have decided to pull out.

The Roots were scheduled to play the two Bowie tribute shows in Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. The shows were set to take place on Thursday 31 March and Friday 1 April respectively. Questlove took to Instagram to explain that The Roots, Kimbra or Bilal will not be taking part.

In an aggressive post, Questlove explained that he has never been one to not share anything with musicians. He stated, “I've never been so insecure or petty as to deny a fellow musician use of any of my equipment (or my band's equipment or resources or contacts or knowledge or anything)”.

It would appear that the percussionist is angry because it isn’t the same case for the other musicians that are playing the shows in tribute of the legend. Questlove finished the post saying simply, “Enjoy your precious equipment.”

The Roots were set to play alongside the likes of Blondie, Cat Power, REM’s Michael Sipe and The Pixies. David Bowie sadly passed away in January at the age of 69.
