Marching Church, who are Elias Bender Rønnenfelt of Ice Age's lesser known but equally brilliant band, have released lead single, 'Heart of Life', from their just-announced album Telling It Like It Is. You can watch band's self-directed video for this swagger-filled hit below.

The cut is their most powerful work to date and if it's indicative of the level they're at on the rest of the record, then we're in for a treat come October 28 when the 9-track LP will be released by label Sacred Bones.

The debut album saw the band move away from Iceage's core punk sound, to explore a more soul-inspired, thematically diverse, and avant-garde approach to music. But this follow-up promises a potentially more focused work described using such terms as 'unified', 'complicated' and 'cohesive'.

The most striking aspect of this song from it is the genuine debauched lunacy that appears to permeate the vocal take. Elias' weary world view is perhaps what makes him such an emotional character.

In the press release he states: “We have here one world united under the sparks of one enormous disco ball hanging over us like the moon. In one fleeting moment in the light of its mirrored surface we see human endurance, in the next we see doom.” Poetic stuff.

Marching Church was originally Ice Age singer Elias' solo side project. Started (roughly) in 2010 it developed into a fully-fledged musical entity in 2014 for the release of first album This World Is Not Enough, solidifying into a group now featuring Iceage bandmate Johan S. Weith (electric viola, guitar), Lower’s rhythm section of Kristian Emdal (bass) and Anton Rothstein (drums), Jakob Emil Lamdahl (trumpet) and Hand of Dust’s Bo Høyer Hansen (guitar).

Music makes me happy. I've seen the industry from all sides, from street teaming to music reviewing and industry conferences, and there's no business quite like it. Remember to support your local small venue - it's where your favourite band (or one just like them) started out!
