Lady Gaga is set to star alongside Bradley Cooper in a fourth remake of A Star Is Born - marking her first leading role.
The film - which tells the story of an aspiring Hollywood actress who falls in love with a fading actor as her success blossoms - was originally released as a drama in 1937, before being remade in 1954 as a musical starring Judy Garland and James Mason. It was remade again in 1976, this time with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson taking on the lead roles.
Now, 40 years on from that third remake, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are set to step up to the plate, with Gaga set to compose and perform new songs.
This isn’t Gaga’s first foray into acting - she recently won a Golden Globe for her role in the fifth season of American Horror Story, and is set to return for the sixth season later this year.
She also co-wrote ’Til It Happens To You’ for the documentary The Hunting Ground, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song (though it was beaten by Sam Smith’s lacklustre Bond theme ‘Writing’s On The Wall’.
Bradley Cooper, meanwhile, rose to fame in comedies such as Wedding Crashers, Yes Man and The Hangover trilogy, before taking on meatier roles in the likes of Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and American Sniper.
