Oxford newcomers, Low Island, have unveiled their third ever single, 'Disconnect'. You can listen to it first on Gigwise below.

The four-piece who are all in their early twenties have a broad palette and draw inspiration from a variety of tasteful sources. They use intelligent dance music production techniques to add engaging psychedelic flourishes and hypnotic rhythms, which vigour to what would otherwise be a brittle tender piece.

In terms of their indie sensibilities, the band draw inspiration from Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, and Arthur Russell. The track is dreamy, escapist, as singer Carlos has a voice that is as soothing as a hot bath after a hard day. But there's an underlying anxiety in there that suggests an inability to switch off.

"’Disconnect’ is a proper workout live,” says Carlos. “The song is about miscommunication and misunderstanding between angry groups. The instrumental almost sounded like a bootleg UK garage track when we started it, then we expanded on the sounds to try to add depth. The backwards sound at the beginning is a set of grandfather clock chimes, homemade by the choreographer of our video."

'Disconnect' follows ‘Anywhere’ and ‘End Piece’ which both received Radio 1 airplay from Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart, and were added to Spotify UK’s Best of 2016 Fresh Finds and New Indie Mix playlists.

Their first ever London gig held at The Sebright Arms was sold out, too. Seems like Low Island are on track for big things with their debut EP set to be released in January.
