Rag'N'Bone Man’s debut album, Human, is selling more than the rest of the Top 20 put together, according to midweek chart figures.
The record, currently Number One in the midweek chart, has sold 70,421 copies so far, almost 62,000 sales more than both the Number Two midweek album by Thunder and last week’s Number One album by Elbow.
The phenomenal figures come on the back of a serious attempt at last year’s Christmas Number One spot by the album’s title track and the artist being awarded the Brits Critics Choice award for 2017.
Insiders see the figures as a sign Rag’N’Bone Man will be a major figure in music in 2017. Rob Clark, senior TV promotions manager at Sony, told Music Week: “When you see the live show and hear the songs he’s got, it definitely looks like an album that’ll still have a strong position in the run up to Christmas and this time next year.”
Rag’N’Bone Man plays the first night of the Brits Week with War Child at the Clapham Grand tonight (February 14), ahead of international dates including a run of UK shows in April and a string of festival appearances including Isle Of Wight Festival, Bestival, The Great Escape and Live At Leeds.
Gigwise caught him live earlier last year and was described as "powerful" and "promising". It seems he's lived up to high expectations.
